About the project

The research group is interested in enlightening the role and functional significance of intestinal microbiota in health and human diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal cancer. In addition to understanding the role of microbiota in these pathologies, the group aims to identify completely novel antimicrobial molecules with potential medicinal purposes by studying multi-resistant enteric bacteria (e.g. ESBL- and CPE-strains) and their relation to other members of the gastrointestinal microbiome. The research methodologies applied include basic molecular biology tools, host-microbe and microbe-microbe interactomics, a novel state-of-the-art metagenomic phage display technique, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and metagenomics.
